To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.

Normally (NOTE: "normally") when you enter a 1099-R that contains the distribution representing your military retirement, TurboTax will check to see what state you live in and ask you what the source of this pension is (this is your chance to enter "military" if that is one of the options).

TurboTax does this because some states do not fully tax military pensions. Armed with this information, TurboTax will enter the pension distribution in the correct lines or schedules to get the pension exclusion.

Now you have not told us which state you are talking about and we in the Community cannot see your private tax data, so what you need to do is watch for the steps I described in the first paragraph, and then if your pension was not reduced as you think it should have been, then come back and tell us.
