Why am I paying Iowa Tax on my pension and SS? I didn't last year.

Not sure what you are seeing or where you are looking.  Iowa does not tax Social Security benefits.  There are nine states that tax SS:

 

Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Utah, and Vermont  These states offer varying degrees of income exemptions, but two mirror the federal tax schedule: MN and VT.
