Question

Why can't I continue with my return without entering 2024's RMD?

Vanguard's website only gives me the current year's RMD. So I need to call them to get my 2024 RMD. They're not open all the time. Mostly, they're not open on weekends when I try to do my taxes. Turbotax wants my '24 RMD, which I don't know. I'd want to skip the field and move on. Turbotax won't allow me. Why not? How do I get by it, since I'm held up in the meantime? And why would you add this step from previous years anyway... and make it impossible to get passed?

Actually you can go on the Vanguard site and see your 2024 RMD amounts.  I just did it to make sure.   Look for "Access RMD service History" to get your 2024 amounts.

To avoid penalty, for each 1099-R, tell TurboTax that the distributed amount box 1 is the calculated required amount.
