Why did my ira deduction of $13,000 show but on my return it only shows $6,500

The $13,000 was $6,500 for me and $6,500 for my wife, yet the actual 1040 was just $6,500, AND the amount I owed went up from what I saw on the Turbo Tax left hand side figures????

You may have indicated that the IRA contribution belonged to you. See the screenshot below to correct the IRA contribution allocation.

  • Type ira contributions in the search box and click search.
  • Click on Jump to ira contributions.
  • Continue to select who the IRA belongs to.
