Why is my NYS & Local Employees Retirement System pension showing as taxable?

I entered it exactly the same as my wife's NYS Teachers Retirement pension which came through as exempt on the state taxes. Both pensions are exempt

Go back to the Federal section where you entered it.

EDIT that 1099-R form again...an step thru the pages that follow the main form.

You need to select the proper pension type..(see below), and indicate the proper NY distribution (it is NOT a zero)
