Question

Why is TurboTax saying I need to fill in Box 9a on Form 1099-R, but my 1099-R from my Payer has Box 9a blank?

TurboTax will not let me continue without entering something in Box 9a, so I am stuck.

Is this 1099-R for a total distribution?

The instructions for line 9a say, "Box 9a. Your Percentage of Total Distribution If this is a total distribution and it is made to more than one person, enter the percentage received by the person whose name appears on Form 1099-R. You need not complete this box for any IRA distributions or for a direct rollover."

Any of this sound familar?

So, do you put in 100% if this my ira and I received the distribution?

If your Form 1099-R has an amount on Box 9a, then enter it; otherwise leave it blank.

Where do I enter my 1099-R?
