My wife is not covered by a pension and we are under the AIG threshold and Turbotax disallowed her contributions only after I clicked to submit my return

Did you contribute to an employer-sponsored or self-employed retirement plan in 2020?

The rule is: if you (and/or your jointly-filing spouse) did contribute to an employer-sponsored or self-employed retirement plan in 2020, the amount you can deduct depends on your tax filing status and modified adjusted gross income (MAGI).

That's what I thought. The upper limit for married filing jointly is $198,000 which is well above our AGI. What is even more troubling is that TurboTax appeared to allow the full deduction. Even after running the final review. Then when I submitted my tax return the amount of refund dropped. I checked the return and that's when I saw that my wife's IRA deduction was disallowed.
