Will adding an in-law, as a dependent ,over 75 affect their Social Security?

Can in-laws be a dependent and file separately

No their Social Security benefits will not be affected.   But if SS is their only income they are not required to file a tax return.   If they have any OTHER income that is more than $4300 then you cannot claim them as a dependent.     And...you cannot claim them if they file a joint return.
