Question

Can I correct an entry for a 1099-MISC?

I incorrectly entered answers for a 1099-MISC. Somehow TurboTax thinks it's for a rental property and wants an address. It is actually for royalties. How can I get back to it to correct it?

If the Form 1099-MISC had income in box 2 that was royalty income, the program would have asked you the type of royalty income received, such as from a natural resource or from self-employment.  You had to choose which one.  Then the program would have selected to start a new Schedule E as Royalty property.

Go to the Schedule E section under Rental Properties and Royalties to complete entry for this royalty property

You should delete your original entry of the form. Start fresh and enter the 1099-MISC after you are in the rental/ royalty property area. Select the correct answer to royalty.

    If you are using:

    • Online: see How do I view and delete forms in TTO?
    •  Desktop: If you are working in the cd/download TurboTax program:
      1. On the top right, there is a FORMS button.
      2. Click on FORMS.
      3. Locate the form you want to delete.
      4. Click on the form name.
      5. Below the form, bottom left, select DELETE FORM button.
