I only have a 1099-misc for non employee compensation. I should have a 1099-NEC

This will not make a difference. When you enter the 1099-Misc, you will be asked a series of questions. When you get to the question of did it involve work like your main job, say yes. This will report the income on Schedule C and will be treated the same.
