Question

If you have received a 1099-MISC form, would you enter it under "Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns" ?

We'd love to help you complete your tax return but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?

  • The 1099-MISC has many uses.
  • Who is it from?
  • Is it a state agency?
  • What is it for?
  • Did you get a state tax refund?

It is from State of CA Franchise Tax Board - MCTR

It is for $700.00 - I believe it was for the gas rebate the state received when the gas prices were high

The Middle Class Tax Refund from California is not taxable to CA or on your federal tax return. and you do not need to claim it as income on your California tax return.

To report the income:

  1. Launch TurboTax
  2. Select Wages and Income
  3. Select Review/Edit
  4. Select Other Common Income
  5. Select 1099-MISC
  6. Follow the prompts to enter your MCTR
  7. At the screen Does one of these uncommon situations apply? Select This was a Middle Class Tax Refund.
