I just received an adjusted refund letter from the state. They are claiming I never paid the quarterly taxes I paid throughout 2024 and this is causing my refund to be substantionally lower than what it originally was supposed to be. I have the receipts for all of the taxes paid each quarter, should I appeal? - Thank you in advance for any help!

I am self-employed and usually owe city taxes at the end of the year. What are these taxes for and how do I categorize that in Quickbooks self-employed? Is it a business expense or a personal expense?

We received a 1099 MISC related to a legal settlement.  The amount reported in box 10 of the form represent additional earnings for a property we sold a few years ago as well as attorney fees we incurred to obtain the additional earnings.  Had we received these additional earnings when we sold the property, these earnings would have been treated as long-term capital gains.  It appears when we enter them on our 2024 1040, they will be treated as regular income and thus taxed at a much higher rate.   This doesn't seem fair. Can we go back and apply the earnings as additional capital gains in the year in which we sold the property by filing an amended return?  If not, is there a way in which we can report the earnings to reflect the fact they represent long-term capital gains? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I have a structured note through my financial advisor and it is showing on Turbo Tax as self employment income but needs to be on schedule D. How do I fix this?

I sold a vehicle last year that I used for business. When I got to the review part of turbo tax, 2 lines on the car and truck expenses worksheet were flagged for errors under the disposition of vehicle section: lines 51 & 52 about depreciation allowed or allowable and then AMT depreciation allowed or allowable. The amount written on both of those lines is the same as the prior depreciation in the section above- 2,719. I did not enter this amount anywhere; turbotax calculated it for me. So I assume it is right. I've used turbo tax every year I had the vehicle and all the information was in there. Now it is flagged because "AMT dep allowed/allowable is too large.... cannot exceed business basis." I'm thoroughly confused and have no idea how to fix it. Please help!

It is not a new job. It is an incentive paid by the car make, just like all the years before. It has never required an extra schedule or made me out to be self-employed. I must be a salesman at a dealership to get this incentive.

How can I redo my tax

We do not have an "Energy efficient commercial buildings deduction" referred to on Line 27b of Schedule C. Even though I entered 0 on that Line, Turbo Tax says I need to attach Form 7205 which it says is not supported by Turbo Tax.  I'm trying to file my return electronically, but Turbo Tax won't let me, saying that the "error" on Schedule C, Line 27b must be fixed.  Then I got a prompt that I must print out my return, get a Form 7205 from the IRS, attach it to my return, and file it by mail.  Is there some way to overcome this apparent "bug" in Turbo Tax, so I can file my return electronically?
