Question

Should I have an amount in Box 7 (State income) of my 1099-NEC? I worked remotely as a freelancer for someone in Florida, but I live in Colorado.

Generally, the issuer doesn't include anything in the state boxes unless there's state withholding. There's nothing to worry about if those boxes are empty.

For information, refer to the TurboTax article How to File Taxes with IRS Form 1099-NEC.

Thank you. My concern is that I have 3 separate 1099-NEC forms from 3 different clients. All of them are from Florida. Two of them do not have anything in Box 7, but one of them does. It seems like there should not be anything in that box.

If I just enter it as-is, will it affect my state taxes, or should it be a non-issue? Do I need to ask for a corrected form?

For the 1099-nec that has an amount in box 7, what is in boxes 5 and 6?   If they are blank, the amount in Box 7 won't affect your taxes. If you get an error requesting a state ID for box 6, you will need to delete the amount from box 7.    Florida has no income tax.  And your resident state (CO) is going to tax you on all of your income.
