Question

trying to do 1099 Misc forms for gas well royalties I have checked and rechecked to form and it still tells me that it needs fixing? It comes up with Schedule E or C ?

It will not let me file until this is fixed and I don't know how to fix it.

I think that you are seeing the screen Source of 1099-MISC income.  TurboTax needs to know where the income should be placed on the tax return.

 

Investment income flows to Schedule E form 1040.  Royalty income from your business flows to Schedule C form 1040.
