Why did I receive a 1099-nec and a 1099-misc for the same compensation?

Unfortunately, there is very little you can do if someone issues you a 1099 incorrectly. You can report the correct income, and in most cases there will be no problems, but the Automated Underreporter system may pick it up. Your other option is to report the income and then add an expense for the same amount with description of "1099-MISC double reported income".
