The GST number asked for in the return, and required by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), can be found on the receipt from the motel/airbnb, etc that you stayed at. This GST number is a must for the CRA to verify and accept the Staycation claim.

The Ontario Staycation Tax Credit is a refundable personal income tax credit for 2022 that can help families get back up to 20% of their eligible accommodation expenses in Ontario. Individuals can claim up to $1,000 and families can claim up to $2,000 to get back up to $200 as an individual or $400 as a family.

To claim these amounts when filing your return, select your version of TurboTax, then follow the instructions provided:

The easiest way to enter these amounts into TurboTax is by utilizing Forms mode:

    1. Navigate to the header and select the option for View, then select Forms method from the dropdown menu
    2. Once in Forms mode, select the Forms button on the footer menu, between the button for your name and the one labelled T-Slips
    3. Select the option for T-1 General from the options that appear
    4. Scroll down until you get to box 47900, then double-click it
    5. This will open Form ON479, where you can enter the amounts you wish to claim toward your staycation credit
