My company only started Oct 13th of 2021. So i would only be reporting income for those last 3 months of the year.

    We appreciate you choosing TurboTax,

A fiscal year refers to an annual period during which a business prepares its financial statements, accounts and/or income tax returns. If your business uses a non-calendar fiscal year, you must meet the requirements set forth by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

    How to define fiscal years

The CRA requires that all fiscal years be less than 53 weeks or 371 days. You can begin your fiscal year on the day your business starts and end it at any time after that, as long as it does not exceed 53 weeks, if you have just started your business and are getting ready to file your first income tax return.

Accounting Years for Sole Proprietors and Partnerships

If you are a sole proprietor or a partnership, you can request a non-calendar fiscal year. Submit Form T1139 to the CRA. These requests are approved by the CRA on a business-by-business basis. You can use the same form if you are currently using a non-calendar fiscal year and want to change to a calendar fiscal year.

    Fiscal Years and Due Dates

If you use a calendar fiscal year, your tax payment is due on April 30 of the year following the year you are filing, but you don't have to file your return until June 15.

If you use a non-calendar year, your return is due six months after the end of the year. For example, if your fiscal year ends June 15, your return is due December 15.
