Question

1099 NEC from a different state where I don't live or perform work

I'm not sure if I have to file a nonresident tax form for the state of Arizona. I work for a nonprofit organization who recently changed their home base to Arizona. They match up health coaches and nurses with clients all over the country in states where the contractor works (for obvious reasons, since it is a face-to-face situation).  I live in the state of Florida, which charges no income tax. The clients I work with (face to face) are also based out of Florida, and I have never set foot in Arizona. Am I exempt from filing in Arizona?

Yes you are exempt from filing in Arizona.  You only have to report income in the states where you work in most cases.

Thank you. I was worried, since there was an amount listed in box 7, even though there were no state taxes withheld nor a state ID number provided.  Essentially, the only contact I have with that Arizona office is providing them with a summary of services provided to my client and the address where services took place, whether a gym or an MDs office etc.
