Can you get a tax credit for expanding your existing solar system if you already got a credit on the original installation some years ago?

If you install new equipment — new solar panels that expand the capacity of the system — then you qualify for a new credit. (Congress recently modified the law, so that if you install just battery capacity, it must be 3 kWh or greater.) It is unclear whether there would be a credit available if you are replacing or upgrading an old system with a new system, you would need to contact a local tax professional. New capacity is definitely allowable.
