Adding another state

I was completing my Louisiana tax return and I reported that I received Georgia Unemployment (due to the pandemic).  The section for Credit for taxes paid to other states came up.  Turbo is telling me to complete the other state return first, so they will know how much was taxed to figure out the Louisiana credit.  My question is how do add the Georgia tax return at this point?  Do I need to remove Louisiana first then install the Georgia return or can pause my Louisiana return then add Georgia ?

You can either remove Louisiana and finish Georgia—or pause, come back to Louisiana and put in the numbers manually in the section for credit for tax paid to other states.

It’s usually easier to follow TurboTax’s recommendation and do the nonresident state first.

You will get a tax credit on your LA return for tax paid to GA. La residents pay tax on income earned everywhere. GA unemployment is taxable to GA even if you live in LA because you are receiving the unemployment because you worked a GA job, so it’s GA income.

I will follow TurboTax's recommendation by completing Georgia first.  Just to be clear:  Steps to remove would be to go to File and select Remove State Return?  Do I need to do anything first?

The desktop program (unlike TurboTax Online) often updates automatically without having to delete the resident state. I ran your situation in desktop without deleting LA first and the credit came through fine.

Try pausing and completing GA. Then check Louisiana before deleting LA to see whether there are numbers in the Other State Tax Credit Summary in the Louisiana state program.

I say this because TurboTax should remember that you bought (or used your free state on LA). Occasionally it will try and charge you again, meaning you'd have to contact customer support.

Otherwise, your are correct. Select File. Then Remove State. To add LA back select Get Another State. TurboTax should remember that you purchased LA.
