Alabama State Tax Year Error 2023

During the review of my Alabama 2023 forms the edit is requiring input dates for the beginning and end tax year dates.  These are only required if you are filing for a non-calendar year.  If I don't fill it in it says I  cannot e-file for a non-calendar year.  That edit has a bug.

I started back at the beginning and verified all input for both federal and state.  Same error.  No matter if I leave the date fields blank or fill in dates it still says "invalid begin date".  The next screen the says I cannot efile because the return is for a non-calendar or prior year.

You could try deleting/re-creating your Alabama return.

    1. With your return open in TurboTax, switch to Forms Mode by selecting the Forms icon
    2. From the File menu, choose Remove State Return. (This won't delete your state program, just the state tax return)
    3. Select the return you want to delete and then select Remove
    4. Answer Yes to confirm
    5. If you want to start a new state return, select the Step-by-Step icon, and then select the State Taxes tab

Or, try re-installing the Alabama state program.   From the Online link at the top, click on 'Download State'.

Clear your Cache and Cookies and 'Check for Updates' again from the Online link.

Here's how to Contact TurboTax Support if this doesn't resolve your issue.

You should be able to enter the Jan 1 and Dec 31 dates. The state is much farther behind this year than usual. The state of AL is still releasing forms. Please check forms availability here. Select online, Windows, or Macintosh from the drop down menu. Whenever the federal and states change a form, we have to as well. This happens throughout tax season.

The date fields in question are on Form 40 which is ready for filing.  All of my forms are ready.  Those date fields should be left blank for a normal calendar year return but the edit is requiring me to fill them in.  If I put in Jan 1 and Dec 31 it says invalid begin date.  If I go on the next screen says that I cannot efile the state return because it is a non-calendar year return.  This is a bug.  How do I efile a normal calendar year return?
