Amended Nebraska State 2020 return

Unemployment Income: Based on the recently passed American Rescue Plan, the first $10,200 of your unemployment income may now be tax-free. Since you filed before this law was in place, you could be owed an additional payment from the IRS.

The above was passed after my filing of my Nebraska state return and just today Nebraska has contacted me and stated I need to file an amended NE state return.  I have updated my 2020 turbotax software and for Nebraska it states this:  Nebraska hasn’t announced their recommendations for amending state returns to claim the $10,200 unemployment adjustment. See the Nebraska Department of Revenue FAQ for more information and check back next week.

When will turbotax be updating this?

    Hi d3rfstax,

    https://revenue.nebraska.gov/individuals/american-rescue-plan-act-arpa-unemployment-exclusion-adjustments

According to Nebraska Department of Revenue, some state returns will be "auto adjusted" for the unemployment compensation exclusion, some require amended returns filed. Since you are just notified by NE DOR, so you need to amend the NE state return.

You should call TurboTax for assistance. Either you use TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online, please ensure the current version agrees with the e-filed version, then start the amendment process. Enter the Federal unemployment compensation exclusion which should flow to the NE state amendment.

If the current version does not agree with the e-filed version due to programming change, then we need to put the tax data back to the original e-filed version, then start the amendment process.

What is the TurboTax phone number?

    Hope the above helps.
