Question

BOX 15 - State, shows "CA" on my W-2. I did not work in CA in 2020. Do I still put "CA" if that is where my employer is based?

It depends.

Does Box 15 on your W-2 form say California?  If so, it sounds like your employer withheld state income taxes in California.  I would recommend contacting your employer to verify this information is correct.

If it is, you will need to file a nonresident income tax return in California to report your wages that were reported as being earned from California sources.
