I went on disability in September and I’m still in disability. Would I have to pay taxes in my disability checks I been receiving? Also before I went on disability I did a little bit of gig work to try and make a little more money . I only made $250 . Would I have to clam taxes on this . I didn’t get any 1099 from disability or from my gig work.

Generally, disability payments aren't taxable that you receive from CA EDD, but if they are, you will receive a Form 1099-G.

For more information, refer to CA EDD FAQ Form 1099G FAQs and select the arrow by Why are my Disability Insurance benefits included as taxable compensation?

You may have to file a federal tax return if you met the filing requirements.  It depends on your filing status, age and where your income came from. If your income came from self-employment, and is over$400, you will need to file a tax return. Also, if you had unearned income over $1,250 you will need to file a tax return. Please review the TurboTax Help article Do I need to file a federal return this year?

If you aren't required to file a tax return but had taxes withheld from W-2 income, you may want to file a tax return to get a refund of the taxes withheld.

Please refer to the TurboTax article Do You Have to File an Income Tax Return? for additional information.
