Do I have to file a California State Tax return if I never lived there or worked there?  I worked in the State of Washington for a company that is based in California so my pay came from California yet I never stepped foot in California.

No, you don't have to file a California tax return because your company is headquartered there. Companies are often headquartered someone far from where a person works.

The only time this can be "complicated" is when a person is permitted to work from home, but their office is located in X state. As long as your company has a place for you to work in Washington, California is totally irrelevant.

They had no physical locations in Washington.  I worked as a regional sales manager traveling across the state I live in.
