Question

Can I claim a solar fan credit when I don't have tax records prrior to 2017 when I claimed other energy credits? What is the limit?

The good news is that certain credits that used to have a $500 lifetime cap now have a $1200 annual cap.  So even if you claimed the full $500 for windows, doors or an air conditioner before 2023, you can claim those credits again starting in 2023.

 

The bad news is a whole house circulating fan (whether solar powered or not) has been removed from the list of qualifying improvements.
