Question

Can I claim my student loan interest deduction on my Iowa return as an adjustment when I worked in Iowa and lived in Illinois?

The loans are for a university in Illinois and originate from there. The only connection to Iowa is that I worked there.

Yes, as a student, you may deduct the interest even if not a resident.

According to the state of Iowa:

"Iowa allows the same Student Loan Interest Deduction that is allowed on your federal return. This deduction is taken on line 24 of the IA 1040."
