Question

Can someone tell me why I owe taxes in the state I moved out of? I moved from Michigan to North Carolina and it says that I owe $265 dollars. Where is that coming from?

I moved in the beginning of October. Does that make a difference?

We cannot see your tax returns, but you lived and received income in two different states, so you are subject to paying part-year income tax in each of those states.   When you filled out your information in MY INFO did you indicate that you moved?  Did you indicate that you lived in MI and moved to NC?   Did you indicate the date that you left MI and allocate your income to MI for the time you lived in MI?

Any income you had prior to moving is taxable in Michigan.   Make sure you allocated all of your income to the correct state.   When you go through the state returns, you have to tell TurboTax how much of your federally reported income belongs to each state you lived in.
