Question

Can't file Federal Return because I can't file my Alabama return

I am trying to e-file my federal and state taxes for this year, but I keep get cycled between a screen that says

I need to fix something on my Alabama return or file by mail.

But when I go to fix my return, nothing I type there seems to work and I see this message:

Form 40: Taxable IRA Distributions We're still working on updates related to retirement distributions (Form 1099-R) that qualify for disaster or covid relief. You can keep working on your return and we'll remove this message when it's ready.

What does this mean? How can I just skip filing my State return and e-file my Federal return right now? BTW, if I try to File by Mail it just takes me back to the beginning of the File section. I don't mind coming back to my State return later, but I would like to e-file my Federal Return now and this is blocking me.

Thanks,

Dave

If you withdrew from retirement because of COVID-19 and have Form 8915-E on your federal return, you may have gotten a “Check this Entry” message stopping you from filing your state return.

TurboTax is working hard to incorporate this new form into all the states in TurboTax. To ensure that your return is accurate, check back after March 19 to file your return. We should have it ready by then!
