Question

Can you ommit state taxes for earnings made in that state if under $600 if total earnings are reported to federal?

My husband works in Tennessee (no state taxes), but has to occasionally travel to other states for his position. 2 of the 4 states for the 2023 tax year, had earnings of less than $600 while in that state. Are we required to file state taxes for those states?

Which states?

It depends on which states he traveled to.  Some states have no threshold, while other states do.

Iowa (under $1k)

Mississippi  (under $2k)

Alabama (under $200)

Missouri ($500)

And I have one for Wisconsin for just over $500.

When I filled everything out we were getting back 100% of what was paid into each state so I'm wondering if I even need to file them (the $59 to file is more than what we would be getting a refund back of)
