I created a money order to pay the state tax that I owe but just a day later I got one corrected 1099 which reduced my state tax by few dollars.

question: now is it ok to still file the return by mail using that extra few dollars money order?

Yes, the state will not penalize you for sending too much money. Did you amend the state return to show the additional income? You should do that and send the payment with the state amended form.

you need to amend if you want the few dollars you overpaid to be refunded by the state.

    what about your federal 1040?

"you need to amend if you want the few dollars you overpaid to be refunded by the state."

No, the state calculates your tax during the approval process and refunds any overpayment
