DC & Virginia, residence, income, and state filing

I lived in VA until March then moved to DC. During which time I did not earn income in Virginia.

Since March I have lived in DC, and I have earned income in both Virginia and DC starting in July.

Do I need to only file with DC because that was the only state in which I earned income while being a resident?

TurboTax popped up with a - fill out your state fillings for both VA and DC so I need to know if I can just ignore the Virginia one?

Thanks!

Yes, you can ignore Virginia (VA) if you had not earnings in that state and had no property that earned money for you.  If you had no VA withholding there would be no reason to file that return.

VA and DC  are reciprocal states which means they understand the their residents could earn money in bordering states.

    Reciprocity:

reciprocal agreement, also called reciprocity, is an agreement between two states that allows residents of one state to request exemption from tax withholding in the other (reciprocal) state. This can save you the trouble of having to file multiple state returns.
