delaware tax form

i live in delaware and my employer takes out taxes for virginia, thats where the yard is for the trucking company i work for is at. i saw delaware uses credits from the taxes i paid to virgina, they took out 2033 and delawares taxes are about 1800 or so. so i used the turbotax and it used the credits to virgina and it took my delaware balance to 0. but where is the rest of the money i gave to virgnia? how do i get that back. in the past i had to file a form to vir. a nonresident  for , dont remember the number, then had to wait for the complete return then mail to delaware. can u help me with thi9s problem. im running turbo tax delux 2019

    You need to file 2 state tax returns: 1) a Virginia non-resident tax return 2) a Delaware resident tax return.  If you have enter wage information correctly in your federal return, the information should populate correctly into your state returns.

    Rule of thumb, prepare your Virginia non-resident return first and then your Delaware return.  this way, you will get a tax credit in Delaware for the taxes you paid in Virginia. Don't do anything additional in return as the amounts may not populate correctly. What happens is that you may receive a refund in one state and owe taxes in another. The reason i say this is that usually there will not be a "0" amount showing anywhere in a return given these same set of circumstances.
