Detroit tax withheld, but work from home

Hi there,

My office is technically Detroit but I work from home or other locations 99% of the time.  I have a significant amount of Detroit local income tax withheld on my W2. My employer has a "log" for tracking when you are in the office that I have filled out.

Is there anyway to recoup part of that local income tax withheld supplementing turbo tax with my log of when I work in the city?

I am assuming you are a nonresident.  If so, yes, only the income that you earned while inside the city of Detroit would be taxable to Detroit.  So, all you will need to do is fill out a Detroit non-resident form and allocate your time/wages to in the city versus out of the city.

How do I exclude nonresident time in TurboTax?
