Didn't live or work in MA but have MA W-2

I lived in MA in 2022, but I still got a MA W-2 in 2023. There was no tax withheld, so I  don't need a refund, but my W-2 is showing taxable wages in MA.  I shouldn't owe anything to MA as my employer is in VA, so there is no longer any connection to MA.

Should I just file a non-resident return in MA to indicate I did not live or work in MA to show I owe no taxes?

When did you move out of Massachusetts?  Is the W-2 dated 2022 or 2023?

Moved out of MA in 2022, the W-2 is for 2023, I haven't actually gotten it yet, but I saw the preview because I'm part of the payroll processing at my org haha. Trying to figure out if I can just submit a non-resident return to make sure I don't have any liability, or if they will need to amend the returns and fix the W-2

Best solution would be for the W-2 to be corrected to show zero MA income.

But if your W-2 shows MA income, MA is likely to look for a return from you.  So yes, in that case you should submit a non-resident MA return, allocating zero income to MA.  If MA subsequently questions that return, you'll be able to explain what happened.

Remember that ALL your 2023 income will be taxable by your new State of Residence, including any mistakenly allotted to MA on your W-2.
