Direct Deposit for State Return

Aarrrrgh. Why is TT so frustrating? Wonderful way to do your taxes - but too many shortcomings of info.

For instance, I just finished my California Non Resident Return. I look at Form 540NR at the refund section. It has the space to put in Direct Deposit information. TT interview does not ask for Direct Deposit info or offer that option. On the form, can't override to put in the info. Same is true of AZ return. It's 2023, I can't get direct deposit from a state tax return?

You can't just explain to me Direct Deposit on this forum? I'd rather not be calling robot phone. Thanks.

You should be able to choose Direct Deposit for both Arizona and California refunds.

If you're expecting State Refunds, in the File interview, you should be asked 'How do you want to receive your refund?' and be presented with options that apply to that state.  If you transferred last year's return, the account info from last year may have transferred also.  If this applies, here's more info on Changing Transferred Direct Deposit Info.

If you're looking at a PDF copy of your return, look at the Filing Instructions page for your state returns to see how your refund is being handled.

If you're using TurboTax Online, here's more info on How to Change My Refund Method.

For TurboTax Desktop, go through the File interview again.  The question comes up almost at the end of the section, just before filing. You are asked to enter your bank routing/account numbers twice.
