Question

Do I file a Maryland state return if I live and worked in Florida remotely for a Maryland company from which I received a 1099-NEC?

    • According to the Maryland Comptroller's Office, income is deemed Maryland-sourced when it is compensation for services performed within Maryland
    • Since you performed all your work remotely from Florida, your income isn't likely considered Maryland-sourced and isn't  likely subject to Maryland state tax
    • You can find more detailed information in the Maryland Comptroller's Tax Alert
