do I have to do estimated Massachusetts state tax in 2025 if I make sure I have enough state tax taken out this year. in 2024 I have to pay the Mass. state tax $488?

    Yes, according to the Massachusetts Dept of Rev, if you are going to owe more than $400 in income tax, You must make estimated payments.

     

    If you ensure you will not have a tax liability of more than $400, you don't need to make estimated payments. If not, you will be subject to penalties.

     

    Generally, you need to pay at least 80% of your annual income tax liability before you file your return for the year through withholding or by making estimated tax payments on any income not subject to withholding.
