Hi ,

I was living in California till March 2024, after that moved permanently to Texas [ my voter Id is in Texas address, car is registered in Texas]. I rented my home in California from  May 2024.

I understand I need to file CA taxes for rental property but other than that do I need to pay taxes for the time I lived in California ?

My pay slip showing ~3000 USD detected as CA taxes till March 2024, will I get refund of that?

Thanks

No one can tell you if you will get a refund of the $3K that was withheld from your CA paychecks; we cannot see any of your other information.   You lived and received income in the state of CA during 2024, so you will have to file a 2024 CA return and include all of the income received that was CA-sourced.    Texas has no state income tax, so you will not have anything to prepare for the state of TX.

You need to file a part-year resident tax return for California.  This TurboTax help article explains how to do that:

How do I file a part-year state return?

California can tax 1) all the income you earned while a resident of California; and 2) all your net rental income from any property located in California, regardless of when you earned it..
