I was ready to file and printed out the state tax but this morning 2/20/2020, there was a notice of an update to the software - wondering if there were any form changes(from first glance on form 8936 (which was the reason fed efile rejected it bc of outdated form, however, turbo tax informed that there were no input changes need, and upon resubmission, fed accepted the return the morning of 2/20/2020) , or I can still mail out the printout before the 2/20/2020 turbo tax update

appreciate it!

it depends if the update will affect your Ca return. Hard to tell at this point.  if it is ready to mail, go ahead and print and mail or wait and apply the update if you wish to take a more cautionary approach.

the return numbers stayed the same for the fed one after the update - so did the California numbers

so I am assuming it is an software update and won't affect the actual forms?

that means it is safe to mail out the printed return from last night?

This update did not affect your return so you are safe in mailing out the printed return from last night.
