Is there a charge for doing NY State taxes?

Yes. If you are using a paid version of the online software like Deluxe or higher, there is a fee for federal and a fee for state. NY is not an exception. If you use the CD/download, you do not pay the state e-file fee of $20 to e-file NY, as you must do with any other e-filed state return.

When using the TurboTax online editions there is no charge to e-file a tax return, federal or state.

Using the TurboTax Free online edition there is no charge for completing a state tax return. However, if you are going to use a form or schedule not supported by the Free edition then you will need to upgrade to the Deluxe or Premium online edition. When using an online edition other than the Free edition there is an additional charge for the state tax program. Currently that charge is $39 if not using one of the Live editions.
