Does Full time student working & claimed as a dependent on parents taxes had federal taxes withheld from pay check. Should they file a return to get this money refunded?

    Did you enter the federal tax withholding from your W2 box 2?  You only get box 2 back.   Not boxes 4&6.   The withholding will show up on 1040 line 25a.  Maybe it says your tax on line 24 is zero not your refund.   A refund is on line 35a.

    Yes, you should file a tax return to get a refund of the taxes withheld.  When completing your tax return you Must indicate on the tax return that you can be claimed as a dependent.

    I did indicate that I am claimed as a dependent, but it says my refund is zero because my amount earned is less than the standard deduction.  So does that mean I don't get the federal back that was withheld?
