Question

Federal residential solar energy tax credit extended for 2022 to 2032, can I carry forward any tax credits leftover from 2022 to 2023 or even further until it zeros out?

I'm looking into install batteries and solar on my roof in 2022 and the 30% tax credit amount will be more than my tax liability for 2022.  Can I carry it forward to 2023 and further on until the tax credit amount balance zeroes out?

The credit is nonrefundable, so the credit amount you receive can't exceed the amount you owe in tax. You can carry forward any excess unused credit, though, and apply it to reduce the tax you owe in future years.
