Question

Filed state accepted 3/27. Recevd letter in mail from IL, they adjusted my withholding say they couldn't verify it by almost $4k. My $2660 refund now says I owe $473.

All w-2's uploaded electronically and amounts verified before filing. How is this possibly?

You need to look at your tax withheld as reported on your tax return and compare it to what is reported on your tax documents. If they agree, then you need to correspond with your state tax authority and provide them with copies of the tax documents reporting the tax withheld and they will straighten it out.
