Dear Team,

My son had an internship in Indiana for less than 3 months last year.  His W2 shows taxes paid in Indiana but he lived in Florida where no state filing is due.  He earned less than 9k during the internship.  Does he need to file an Indiana State Return?  Further, Do i need to answer the question on Turbo Tax that he lived in another state to the affirmative if it was less than three months?  His official address was never changed to Indiana.   Thanks.

Just to be clear, he was onsite in Indiana for 2.5 months, but never changed anything official since it was very temporary.   Thanks.

Yes, since he had taxes withheld, he will want to file a non-resident Indiana Return. Since he was there for an internship, that is considered a temporary absence from Florida. So yes, he earned income in another state, but no he did not live in another state.
