Hi, I'm trying to figure this out, I'll be working as a 1099 freelance consultant living in FL where there is no state income tax, my client is based in NYC. Almost all of my work will be done remotely with the occasional trip up to the city for the initial setup. I understand that work performed in NYC is subject to NYC/NYS taxation for the period worked while in there. Or does NYS consider all of my earnings theirs even though I am a foreign entity to the state with minimal time worked there?

If you service a client in New York, that is income from a New York source whether you were physically present or not. You would file a non resident New York tax return.
