Hi,

I am filling out form TC-40S of Utah:

For first state, it asks in line 1:  Enter federal adjusted gross income taxed by both Utah and state of California (which I am trying to get Credit for income tax paid to another state or California in this case).  My question is:  1) Is this federal adjusted gross income taxed by both Utah and state of California is from line 11 of Form 1040.  2) Or is box 1 (Wages, tips, other comp.) of both W-2 forms for Utah and California (when add together these two box 1) equal the federal adjusted gross income taxed by both Utah and state of California?  3) If it is not, how do I get this federal adjusted gross income taxed by both Utah and state of California?

For first state, it asked in line 6: Actual income tax paid to state shown on line 1.  Is this from box 17 (State Income tax) of California W-2 form?

@Thanh Ly   you must first complete your federal return, then your non-resident state which is CA, only then will you complete your NV return.

It can be very complex what income is taxed by CA as it depends on so many matters.

If you lived in UT and worked for a company in CA it would be all your income.

Please just utilize TT and these forms will fill in for you if you complete the returns in the correct order.

    Good luck
