Hawaii Tax Penalty

After moving to Hawaii part way through 2023, I went through the "Estimated Tax Worksheet for Hawaii" and paid the required 60% of the 2023 estimated taxes due. In fact, the estimated Hawaii AGI I used was higher than the actual at the end of the year so the percentage I paid was closer to 78%. I paid the installments per the State's schedule and on the scheduled due dates. TurboTax for some reason is saying I have a tax penalty even though everything I read on Hawaii taxes says I do not.

What do I need to do to get this corrected and the penalty off of the TurboTax return?

And as an FYI, TurboTax never walked me through applying my estimated tax payments for Hawaii. I had to hunt through the TurboTax sections and forms to find where to add it. If I didn't catch it, I would have lost out on claiming the thousands of dollars of estimated payments I made. Because of this, I was very disappointed in the quality of the product for the State of Hawaii.

The estimated payments you made get entered in the federal portion of TurboTax.   Make sure you have entered them in the correct spot and have them linked to the state of HI.   It doesn't sound like they are being applied correctly.   Where to enter estimates paid?   Change the dates if necessary.

I made the changes you suggested, and although the penalty is smaller, there is still one listed on the tax form. One payment was made in 2023 and one was made in 2024, but that is the due date for the 4th quarter estimated tax payment.

    Any other ideas?

Also, when you file your tax return the taxing authority will apply any estimated tax payments you made or taxes withheld to your return even if you didn't enter them, as they will have a record of them in your account.
