Question

Hello. I am from California but I went to school in Arizona from 2017-2021 and still live here. I just recently got an Arizona ID. Am I able to file my taxes in Arizona ?

It depends whether you earned money in Arizona. If you were a student in 2021, then you were a California resident until you graduated. Any money you earned prior to graduation is California income.

California says: "For instance, students who are residents of  California leaving this state to attend an out-of-state school do not automatically become nonresidents, nor do students who are nonresidents of California coming to this state to attend a California school automatically become residents."

File a part-year California return and report any money earned while you are a student. This money is also taxable to AZ but CA will give you credit for tax paid to AZ.

File a part-year AZ return but report all you income (including while a student) because it was all earned in AZ.
