Question

Hi, I'm self-employed. I lived in MA for 3 weeks then moved to PA where I made the rest of my money. Should I be paying income tax to MA for the 49 weeks I lived in PA?

No, you should only be taxed during the time you lived in Mass. To report his correctly in your return:

  1. Prepare your Mass part-year resident return. You will need to allocate the 3 weeks worth of income you earned in Mass. This question will be asked as you navigate through your Mass return
  2. You will prepare your PA return last. If you prepared your Mass return correctly, the allocation and tax credits should populate into your PA return.
